   The Silberstein family has been creating beautiful home interiors for more than 85 years. Michael and Malvina Silberstein opened their upholstery shop in Red Bank in 1920. After 1929 when all businesses had to rebuild from the depression, David Silberstein at age 12 had to join his father's shop. He worked part time ripping furniture and began to learn the trade. Following Navy service in WWII, he returned to the business. When Michael retired in 1965, David took over full time at their new location in Shrewsbury, along with his brother-in-law, Harry Friedman, Who retired in 1984.

     David and his wife Esther continued to run the business until their semi retirement last year. There is no break in continuity though, because their son Howard and daughter, Rhonda Silberstein Gale, were already on the scene. From the beginning there has always been a Silberstein present. Howard learned the same way his father had from the bottom up. As in so many family businesses, each generation has to learn every aspect of the business. Today's third generation is steeped in the tradition of creating beautiful homes for third generation customers. This is one of the wonderful things about Multi-generational businesses and the multi-generational loyalty of their clients.
